Parkinson's UK - 'DesignOps' & Design System
As the Senior User Experience Designer at Parkinson's UK, I led the initiative to create a comprehensive design system aimed at enhancing collaboration across internal teams and external partners. The objective was to establish a consistent visual language and a shared repository of design assets, streamlining the workflow between designers, developers, and external agencies. This design system included standardised components, typography, colour palettes, and guidelines, ensuring that all digital products and communications adhered to the same high-quality standards and brand identity.
Facilitating Collaboration and Efficiency:
The implementation of the design system significantly improved collaboration and efficiency within Parkinson's UK. Internal design teams and external agencies could now access a centralised library of assets, reducing redundancy and minimizing inconsistencies in design outputs. Developers benefited from clear guidelines and reusable components, which accelerated the development process and reduced the potential for errors. The design system also provided comprehensive documentation, making it easier for new team members and partners to get up to speed quickly, fostering a more cohesive and productive working environment.
Establishing DesignOps for Continuous Improvement:
To support the ongoing effectiveness and evolution of the design system, I worked on establishing DesignOps within the design team. This involved creating processes and practices to manage the design system's maintenance, updates, and governance. By implementing regular review cycles, feedback loops, and cross-functional collaboration, we ensured that the design system remained up-to-date and relevant to the needs of the organisation. DesignOps also facilitated continuous improvement by integrating user feedback and industry best practices, positioning the design team to adapt swiftly to future challenges and opportunities.
