Parkinson's UK - Local Support Tool
The Local Support Tool at Parkinson's UK was designed to help people with Parkinson’s discover activities—both in-person and online—to support their wellbeing and foster community connections. However, the original tool fell short of meeting accessibility standards, particularly on mobile devices. Users were required to side-scroll through long lists of activities, creating a frustrating and cumbersome experience. My role as Senior User Experience Designer was to reimagine this tool with inclusivity and usability at its core.
Designing for Simplicity and Clarity:
The foundation of my redesign was built on reducing cognitive load and creating a seamless user experience across devices. Inspired by Airbnb's intuitive interface, I introduced bold, colourful buttons that allowed users to quickly filter activities by type, location, or online availability. These buttons acted as clear entry points, minimising the need for excessive scrolling and making it easier for users to find relevant results.
Accessibility First - Mobile Friendly Improvements:
Accessibility was a guiding principle throughout the project. The new design prioritised a responsive layout, ensuring the tool worked effortlessly on smaller screens. Large touch targets, optimised spacing, and enhanced readability made navigating the tool more intuitive for users, particularly those with dexterity or vision challenges associated with Parkinson's.
