Parkinson's UK - UI Update
As Senior User Experience Designer, I was tasked with leading the experience team to update the user interface for Parkinson's UK to make it more accessible and modern for its users. The primary goal was to ensure that individuals with Parkinson's and their caregivers could navigate the site with ease, finding the resources and support they need without frustration. To achieve this, I implemented accessibility best practices, such as improving color contrast. Additionally, I introduced a cleaner, more contemporary design that aligned with current web standards, making the site visually appealing and user-friendly.
Streamlining Search and Signposting:
A significant part of the project involved enhancing the search functionality and improving signposting throughout the website. The previous search system often returned irrelevant results, making it difficult for users to find specific information quickly. I restructured the search page to prioritise relevant content and implemented advanced filtering options, allowing users to narrow down results based on categories like articles, support services, and events. Moreover, I introduced clearer signposting, ensuring users could effortlessly locate important sections of the site.
User Testing and Project Conclusion:
Plans were in place to test the updated designs with local groups, including individuals with Parkinson's, their families, and healthcare professionals. These tests were intended to gather feedback on the new UI and search improvements, ensuring the changes met the community's needs effectively. However, before we could proceed with testing, Parkinson's UK decided to embark on a comprehensive brand refresh. This strategic shift required a complete redesign to align with the new branding and assets, leading to the abandonment of the UI update project 😔.
